Foam and Plaster Sculpture

Artist Statement

The development of this sculpture was an interesting process. When I first thought of the idea for this sculpture I wanted it to feel more organic than boxy when using the harsh edges of the foam board. The fabric was intended for the movement to draw the viewers eye to the smaller details of the fabric, with the contrast of the foam. The black spray paint makes it clear that the fabric is fabric because it allows the fold to stand out, rather if I used a lighter spray paint you would be able to see some of the imperfections. i wanted to give the illusion that this is a pedestal that something could potentially sit on top of. Overall the process was lengthy with the fabric being difficult to use with the plaster.
